Diffusion BondingIT IS POSSIBLE TO BOND DIFFERENT MATERIALS TOGETHER TO GIVE AN OPTIMUM COMBINATION OF DIFFERENT MATERIALS PROPERTIES AND TO SAVE ON EXPENSIVE MATERIALS.
This may be achieved by solid state diffusion bonding.
Unlike the situation with other techniques there is minimal change in the properties of each material, for example good corrosion resistance may be combined with high thermal conductivity.
The service offered by the Bodycote HIP division includes capsule manufacture, evacuation and consolidation by hot isostatic pressing (HIP).
Large scale combination of different materials may be achieved by HIP diffusion bonding.
For consolidation the materials are encapsulated in a mild or stainless steel container which must be free from leakage at the elevated temperature and pressure of the HIP process.
Container and solid parts must be cleaned before encapsulation to avoid reactions and impurities.
Evacuation, sealing and HIP are the final steps in the manufacture of PM bi-metallic bars and preforms.
