Tech 60 Ceramic for AlTECH 60 is a zirconia/chromia composite ceramic coating designed for wear and corrosion resistance and which also offers good electrical insulation capabilities. This coating is thermochemically bonded at low temperatures, which allow this coating to be applied to aluminum substrates, in addition to higher temperature alloys such as steel, super alloys, and titanium.
BOND STRENGTH
TECH 60 is chemically bonded to the substrate by a phosphate bond. Epoxy-pull testing is being performed, however, the bond is similar to other K-Tech coatings that have exceeded the ability of the pull test to measure.
DENSITY
The unique coating/densification system for applying the TECH 60 coating results in a coating with no open porosity. The 2% isolated porosity of this coating is sealed, which prevents corrosives from migrating through the coating to attack the substrate. This prevents blistering of the coating, typical with thermal sprayed coatings.
HARDNESS
TECH 60 is a blend of zirconia oxide and chromia oxide which have particle hardness of 1200 vickers and 2850 vickers, respectively. TECH 60 wears as a result of the hardest of the constituents – chromium oxide.
